Highlights

  • After the great fortunes of the textile industry, Lodz inherited impressive buildings: palaces and factories, now used by the authorities and inhabitants of Lodz. The renovated buildings serve as museums, exhibition halls, galleries and shopping centres.
  • Manufaktura Łódzka – the renovated factory is used as a retail, service and cultural area. The huge complex houses a cinema, shopping centre, restaurants, and the Museum of Art, which presents works by prominent artists.
  • Lodz is called the Polish Hollywood. For over 60 years, Lodz was the place where the film studio Se-Ma-For was operating. Currently, Lodz can boast of the Polish National Film, Television and Theatre School, called simply the “Film School”, whose pupils are well-known actors rewarded in Poland and abroad.
  • The first post-war Polish semi-automatic pistol called WIST-94 was produced in the Lodz-based Prexer company. In 1999, by the order of the Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces, the pistol entered the equipment of the Polish Armed Forces.
  • Lodz is also the Polish capital of fashion! It is here that colleges that educate future designers are located. The well-known events organised in the city include Fashion Week Poland or Fashion Lab.
The most famous place in Lodz is the 4-kilometre-long Piotrkowska Street – recognised as one of the longest shopping streets in Europe. On Piotrowska Street, you will find countless shops, boutiques, cafes, pubs and restaurants.
